How your donations are spent

Making a donation to Friends of Montgomery County Texas Animal Shelters is one of the simplest things you can do to save a life and prevent pet homelessness.  Here are just a few of the ways FMCTAS has helped Montgomery County Animal Shelter since 2007. 

FMCTAS has spent $700,000 since 2006 on veterinary bills and supplies to treat or save the lives of sick and injured animals that come into the shelter everyday. We have seven veterinary clinics who work with us to provide a much needed service, often at short notice.

FMCTAS pays for the food and medical care of the shelter animals being fostered while they await adoption.

FMCTAS organizes and manages regular off-site Adoption Events at several venues. Anyone fostering an animal may bring their animal along, increasing the chance of adoption.    
FMCTAS donates, on a regular basis to the Shelter we work with, all supplies needed to take care of the abandoned animals.

NEW CAT ROOM

FMCTAS takes in over 2,000 animals each month, of which at least half are cats. Even with spay and neuter programs, the number of cats and kittens abandoned at the shelter is staggering. The cats are housed in kennels making it difficult for potential adoptive families to see their personalities and playfulness. Consequently, the potential for successful adoption is minimized. FMCTAS, along with supplies from the County, has converted the old cat room into a beautiful 30 x 30 two story free roam area for the cats, copying the smalled cat adoption room furnished by FMCTAS. 

The original walls were demolished and replaced with picture windows so the cats can see and be seen by the public. 
The room is now outfitted with cat beds, scratching and climbing posts, and even benches so potential adoptive families can relax and watch the cats play. 

The old room has been totally reconfigured to keep them cage free. The new area now gives the cats opportunity to exercise, socialize and eat or drink on demand at food and water stations.

The new rooms have beautiful murals provided by volunteers from Lone Star students Cultural & Art Club.

We hope this change will dramatically improve the quality of lives of more than 1,000 cats and increase adoptions.
